Course Introduction

This course will address the ethical complexities of the current system of Mental Health Diagnostics and attempt to guide mental health professionals to address some of these complexities in ways to help providers grow their understanding of this topic and hopefully encourage growth in diagnostic clinical competence. During this course you will learn:

  • What national ethics codes say around diagnostics
  • What the concepts of beneficence and nonmaleficence can teach us about diagnostics
  • What are some of the ethical implications of diagnostics for clients
  • How are Mental Health Awareness and the Modern Colloquial creating some challenges in this area
  • What are the potential benefits of clinically competent diagnostics for clients
  • How do we shift away from the tendency to label and instead leverage the benefits of diagnostics
